UPDATE3: I’ll do a full writeup today evening or tomorrow but TLDR is that this is the most scary car ive driven. That said it isnt as scary as the interwebs had me believe it to be. Certainly a step above a Vette in terms of driver involvement.
UPDATE2: Much excited!
UPDATE: The Viper is in a body shop. Apparently they are replacing the front hood for some reason, you know the one which costs $4000.
Any advise? Other than not die.
Its a 1994 with 12k miles for $35k.

Just remember it’s in a different class of car. Roll on and off the throttle, don’t jam it. From what I understand the brakes aren’t insane but this thing also lacks ABS. That’s really the trick, to just remember that you can’t thrash on it like a civic.

K eep your expectations low. It’s an older car with a loose chassis. Also, be careful getting out (side pipes)
![]() 09/21/2018 at 13:25 |

It’s “only” 400 HP and 462 ft-lbs of torque so should be similar to a new mustang without any of the traction control nannies
. I’m jelly.

A 94 with 12k miles? Part of me says that’s collector value low numbers.... Part of me also says Hoon it til it consumes you and I can inherit it. Also I need you to bindly sign this revised copy of your will.

I’ll give you a dollar if you can find where the horns are mounted.
![]() 09/21/2018 at 13:29 |

Yeah, no ABS on this.

Well I have driven a C5Z06 and a ‘16 Stag GT. The Vette is much much faster and quicker to respond than the stag.

On the track, I remember them handling like a big Miata, on the street not so much experience, but didn’t seem like anything difficult to handle.

Interesting...
So it handled well?

Can you get a recording of the engine noise? And I would pay close attention to the NVH quirks although you might be having too much fun to pay attention. The early ones are pretty raw, and I’m interested in the experience.

The early ones are pretty raw, and I’m interested in the experience.
Me too. 94-02 vipers are the most raw, crazy cars that I can own, financially next year when I plan to get another vehicle.
I’ll try to get some audio/video. I’ll also post an comparison with a C5Zo6 and a C5 base.
![]() 09/21/2018 at 14:30 |

Very well, they have a good history as track and race cars because of their balance, for amateur and professional series as well.
Miata on steroids is a pretty common description of them. Though I suspect they will feel rather agricultural for street use.

I’m excited!

I think you will, first gens are build like kit cars, but overall there is quite a bit of character to them.
![]() 09/21/2018 at 14:56 |

similar to the Mustang... minus hundreds of pounds.
![]() 09/21/2018 at 14:58 |

Exactly what I like! I think my Mini has spoiled me when it comes to characterfulness. The viper should be better me thinks.

Try the turn signals. There is one (dark green) that I see coming from / going to drop my daughter off at gymnastics. Thought it was a BMW at first because it clearly doesn’t have working turn signals....

Triumph started making Stags again!?
![]() 09/21/2018 at 15:50 |

Lol. I should stop being lazy and write about some of the cars that I have test driven.
![]() 09/21/2018 at 16:04 |

That takes a lot of effort. Shit posting is much easier. Reading others' shit posts is easier still. That's why I mostly just do the last one.

Swing it by my place on your test drive so I can, ahem, remove some weight from the rear tires.
![]() 10/05/2018 at 12:43 |
|
Only $4k? Must be used or aftermarket.
![]() 10/05/2018 at 12:44 |

buy one with more miles and enjoy.
The first one i had had low miles and I felt bad driving. my current ‘94 has 70K and I would compare the condition
to
most of the low mileage cars out there. A mid mileage car like mine would set you back around 22 or 23.
![]() 10/05/2018 at 12:48 |
|
No, its my responsibility to remove all the weight. You don’t have to worry about it :)
![]() 10/05/2018 at 12:49 |
|
I’m not buying it right now, its the only one near me. I wanna experience it. I’ll be in a position to buy another car next year so I’m testing all the ones that I think I’ll like.
![]() 10/05/2018 at 12:50 |

I guessed $4k, might as well be more.
![]() 10/05/2018 at 13:10 |

replacing the hood?
i guess somebody took it for a test drive before you

:(
![]() 10/05/2018 at 13:50 |

well... why else would you replace a part that pricey on a car you want to sell?
![]() 10/05/2018 at 13:56 |

I know, I just dont like it.

you must save it.... before its too late

Let me know how it drives! A Viper will most likely be my next car in less than a year.
![]() 10/16/2018 at 15:54 |

I will! I will probably stop being lazy and write about a bunch of cars that I have test driven in the last year....

If you buy one, you need to get a WILKILU personalized plate.
Getting seriously tempted by these as well. They are the 90s version of the Cobra, and will get more expensive sooner rather than later. Vipers/Espirits/Bentley Turbo Rs are incredible value for former poster cars with performance cred. Espirits are getting more pricey, but a good example of any of the three
will be less than 30K (and you can find the Bentley for less than 15).

I was thinking V10ORBST. Not sure if I’ll buy one tho...
Go drive one if possible. It is just as you would remember it to be in Test Drive 4 (if you played the game ) .

V100 are boost? Nope
V10 or bust

Young me couldn’t complete the training mission in Driver :(
So, TD4/6 was my go to game.

Does Mopar even still sell the hood? I believe they’re at least over $ 8k
![]() 10/17/2018 at 15:24 |

Depends.... the 1993-94 one is no longer available. There MIGHT be some 1995- 96 hood still around, MSRP is 5 or 6 grand iirc

So....how much do you want it now then? :P

Not gonna say now. I’ll to do a proper post to explain what I think.
